1. FDA clears Rivanna’s SpineNavAI and Accuro 3S ultrasound system

  • On July 17, the FDA approved two cutting-edge AI-powered spine technologies: SpineNavAI, which uses machinelearning to highlight lumbar anatomical structures and pinpoint the spine’s midline via ultrasound, and Accuro 3S, a portable ultrasound system that integrates with SpineNavAI for realtime imaging support Adonis+4Muck Rack+4Becker’s Spine Review+4.

Why it matters:
These tools promise enhanced accuracy during spine procedures, better ultrasound-guided interventions, and improved intraoperative efficiency. They represent a major leap forward in AI-driven musculoskeletal imaging.

2. 3Dprinted titanium pedicle screws — a first-in-human case

  • Stephen Courtney, MD, founder of Eminent Spine, led the first clinical case using a 3Dprinted titanium pedicle screw system on July 16 in Richardson, TX. This innovative screw is the first of its kind to be used in live surgery Muck Rack.

Impact:
3D printing allows customization of implants to match patient anatomy, potentially improving fixation, reducing complications, and ushering in a new era of personalized spinal hardware.

3. Aurora Spine’s Aero lumbar fusion device debuts

  • On July 9, Aurora Spine announced its FDA-cleared Aero lumbar fusion system, suitable for spinal levels C2–S1. Early surgeries confirmed its performance as a standalone or adjunct device for treating instability and facet pain Muck Rack+1HAPPE Spine+1.

Takeaway:
This minimally invasive system expands options for treating lumbar spine pathology with reduced surgical footprint, aligning with the trend toward less invasive workflows.
